How to Win Free Star Trek Stuff!

Tell your friends about this! (Other social media links below the post!)

Don’t know if you’ve heard about this free promotional program, but I thought I’d share it with you just in case. A promotional company called Swagbucks, has joined forces with Roddenberry.com to create “Roddenberry Search”. Per the site: “any resident of the US, the UK, or Canada (except for residents of Quebec) above the age of 13 is eligible to redeem prizes from Roddenberry.” They have about 87 items to chose from as of the time of this posting and 3 sweepstakes offers. The prizes are not all spectacular, but free is free. The prize inventory seems to change periodically, and new sweepstakes are added monthly.

Search & Win

Sounds stupid huh? Well it’s not. In fact it may be the coolest idea ever. Swagbucks has been around since at least 2007, working with various names to provide promotional items to the public in exchange for free participation in their marketing programs.

Is this a scam? Not as far as we can tell. A lot of marketing companies do this. We check everything we post on UberNerdNation as thoroughly as we can before considering sharing information with you and have seen nothing but positive feedback. If we are wrong, let us know.

This particular Swagbucks program is also sponsored by Roddenberry.com, a trusted genre name, so I seriously doubt there is any foul play here.

I really don’t understand why anyone would feel cheated when they are being offered free stuff for doing what they normally do, without any obligation, but for those of you who are paranoid (believe me I understand – I know they’re watching me even now), the site has a lot of FAQs and contact info if you have other questions.

The way it works is really simple and ridiculously easy.

Step 1: Click on the ad banner below to directly access and register for an account so you can earn points when you use Roddenberry Search. They only ask for your full name, email address, zip code, and date of birth (just like any other basic registration). From FAQs on their site and the various feedback sources online, they do not spam you or sell/share your information.

Per the website FAQ:
Q. Will you spam me or track my searches?
A. Never! Your personal information will not be reproduced, divulged, or sold!

Search & Win

Step 2: They will send you an email to verify your email account is valid and not some hacking robot. Just verify so your earned points will be recorded as you use the tool.

Step 3: Use Roddenberry Search as often as you like for all your web browsing (or at least until this promotional event ends).

  • YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO USE IT, but the more you do use it, the more chances for free tokens you accumulate to get cool prizes! You can even download a search toolbar widget for your web browser so you can remember.
  • You will randomly earn token points throughout the day as you search. I started 2 days ago and already have over 150 tokens just from making periodic searches that I would do anyway. It is a very slow process to earn tokens because you only get a few a day.
  • You can’t search back to back and expect tokens. It is best to search every few hours (6-12 by most web user estimates). You have to be patient.
  • If you cheat (yes there are ways) and are caught, they will block your account from earning any more tokens.

Step 4: Redeem your tokens for really cool Star Trek themed gifts – for free! You can even use your tokens to enter Sweepstakes Raffle Drawings. This month they are offering a chance to win a “Star Trek: Generations” Screenplay Script, a Phone Call with Nichelle Nichols, and a really splendid looking Sword of Kahless Prototype Prop that is 40 inches in length, 1/4 inch thick and 3.95 pounds in weight.

I am not sure how much longer this will be around, so you better act fast. Please help us grow so we can continue providing you with cool tips and news by telling your friends where you learned about this cool promotional program!

You can read more about the promotion, including rules and what is required, when you click the links to access the site. I can’t speak to shipping for these free items (if there is any), but I do know most of this stuff is hard to find or sometimes pricey at conventions.

Good luck and have fun!
