Iron Man 2, the sequel to the 2008 Blockbuster makes its way onto DVD and Blu-Ray today.

Although not as great as the first film (but how many movies can really make that claim), the film maintains a rhythm all its own and keeps the viewer engaged.

The addition and reintroduction of War Machine, this time played by Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury Agent of Shield, set this storyline to connect into the Ultimate Avengers movie.

The overall plot, dialogue and conflict added between Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle as heroes who can’t get along mirror the exact relationship shared by the villian’s played by Mickey Rourke (Whiplash) and Sam Rockwell (Billionaire Rival Justin Hammer).

The film has some great action sequences, especially the finale between Iron Man, War Machine, and a legion of War Drones, but the final battle between Whiplash and Iron Man seemed rushed in comparison.

Unfortunately, the action sequences starring the beautiful Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow also leave a lot to be desired, but the supplemental storyline provided by the introduction of the character more than makes up for it.

Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury Agent of Shield) help to provide the balancing forces of reason in this film and wrap up the cast nicely.

This entire film seems to be a series of mirrored opposites but instead of being a cliche, it actually offers a classic battle of perspectives and partnership ideals which make the film interesting. The kind of stuff we enjoy to read in comic books.

If you decided to skip this film in theaters, you may want to give it a chance. The visuals alone are enough to carry it, but this film also has a good storyline, and one you don’t really have to be a fan to understand.

This is another great film in the Marvel franchise and with planned movies like Thor, Iron Man 3, Captain America, and The Avengers in the works, you can be sure we will be seeing more soon.
