Is it just me or are Star Wars collectibles getting better in recent years?

The Star Wars Interactive R2D2 Droid Unit is not the small remote control toy seen in most toy stores. This droid measures approximately 15 inches high and is programmed to respond to over 40 simple commands and has signature sound effects.

The promo describes some cool features, like “a secret cargo compartment, a unique swing-down utility arm that’s also a beverage holder, a removable sensor scope, a working light beam, sound-processing microphones, and an adaptable droid mood-status indicator. Sonar navigational technology and infrared location sensors help make him one the most advanced droids around.” It runs on 4 ‘AA’ and 4 ‘D’ alkaline batteries, which of course are not included.

Looks nice and has a lot of positive reviews all over the net. The biggest complaint seems to be that the unit has difficulty understanding sometimes. Memories of Furby come to mind, but at least with this I don’t see it ending up in the trash or the dog’s play box.

It’s being marketed as a kids toy (ages 8 and up), but let’s be honest, at a cost between $160-$200, we know who it is really for.
